I've just posted a review and photos of the Puritan Backroom in my Cravings blog..... check out the photos! I'm pretty proud of them. If you've ever been to the Backroom, you know how dark it is in there.
Today I was invited again to Christina and Jason's beautiful home, and even better, they invited me to take some portaits of them! So happy to do that. Poor Jason is a bit of a camera phobe from what I understand, so I'm happy he was willing to do this. I tried to work fast, because it was very cold, and the snow was coming harder by the minute (you should have seen my ridiculous umbrella get-up I had going on), and during the course of our little mini-shoot I think I was able to get some great shots of the two of them.
Not much going on around here lately, just trying to get thru the work week. I had a GREAT blood pressure reading today, 120/80. I was really happy to see that. I also found some new Smart Start cereal at the grocery store with lots of BP-friendly stuff. I haven't eaten any of it yet. Every little bit helps!
So as to not leave you completely empty-handed today, I posted a new quickie review on Cravings. Bon Appetit!
the famous turkey naturalist, Dave! Here we have 2 adult male wild turkeys who were fighting in our backyard for about an hour this morning. Dave kept calling me at work and giving me blow-by-blow reports. Awesome photos by Dave!
They were so busy fighting that he was able to walk right up to them. He tried to break it up, but they ignored him.
Today for the first time ever I got busted for taking pictures in a restaurant. LOL! We went back to Makris for lunch and this lady that worked there (who was not our waitress) came up and asked why I was taking pictures of the food. I was like, well, I just kind of take my camera everywhere with me.... Dave pipes in with, "She's a scrapbooker" in a tone that was like, duh! That should account for all kinds of wacky behavior. LOL!
So anyway, I've been having blast with the few pics I've been able to take with the 20D so far (shooting raw whenever I can, too!). Observe to the right the tallest stack of fried seafood I've ever seen! This was just incredible. And here below is some yummy seafood chowder. (you can click either one for a larger pop-up)
Otherwise it's been a very quiet weekend. I slept 10-11 hours each night and it was delightful. The sun is coming up REALLY early these days! Well, for winter anyway. I'm so happy for the extra daylight. It was way too cold to get out and do much. We did play 9 powerball tickets for Saturday's drawing but got a big fat goose egg. Dave says we still have to go back to work on Monday. <sigh>
The Canon 20D! Ohmigod. It's such a dream. I have upgraded from my D-Rebel, the camera I thought I'd never outgrow. Well, I kind of did. I'm so excited about all the new features and ablities. I'm still reading and memorizing the instruction manual. I'm such a stickler about reading the instructions, LOL. I feel I have no right to be asking any questions if I haven't learned that thing backwards and forwards. One of my pet peeves. If it wasn't so COLD I'd go outside and play around with the new camera! I love this side by side comparison of the 2 cameras, it's so helpful.
The weather has been insane. It was a war zone trying to get home yesterday, in fact I really had a lot of trouble getting home because every way I went there was a tree down. Finally I had to take the loooooong way around back through the woods dodging falling limbs and sticks, and there was a tree down there too, but the police let me squeeze past. That was my last option, LOL! There would have been no other way. The news has been full of power outages, trees through roofs and crushing cars, utility poles down everywhere.
FInally finished this layout which I've had on my table for many weeks now.... I just wanted a big huge summary page of 2005.
I'm getting antsy and figety for spring..... Yesterday it was 60 degrees and we went for a walk and there was a touch of warmth lilting in the breeze. Barely perceptible, but it was there! A touch of spring. And just seeing my crocuses trying to come up has really got me going. Even my cat Dixie felt it, she suddenly went nuts and bolted for her screen door like she does when she wants us to open it for her. She LIVES in front of this screen door all spring and summer and doesn't understand why she can't have it open all the time. She felt it in the air!
But... it's only Feb 17. It will be 20 degrees by the end of the day today. This is the part where I get anxious, the weather starts to tease, and I know we're getting close. I just have to buckle down for the next 2 weeks and then once March comes I can legitimately start looking forward to some changes, depending of course on the snow!
I'm so happy to be able to say that I've just had a page picked up by Scrapbooks Etc! (or as we say on the boards, BHG for Better Homes & Gardens). I'm thrilled because I've been submitting to them off and on, whenever I thought I had something worthwhile, and I just got the email first thing this morning. This is also my first post-PK request, so it's really nice to feel validated by other magazines after so, so very long.
AND [edited to add] I just discovered that I was the Pubster of the Day! LOL! Such an honor to enjoy my day in the spotlight ::smile::
Oh, and another thrilling thing? I saw one little pesky crocus peeking its green self up through the ground today!!! And of course I have to go poking at it just to make sure I'm not seeing things, and then next to it under a clump of mulch were two more crocuses poking up! I covered them up and told them to go back to sleep, it's not time yet!! Very very cold arctic air is coming in soon.
