Traditionally the first Saturday in August is always the annual MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) Clambake held at the Portsmouth Naval Yard near Kittery, Maine. We go as guests of Aunt Marilyn & Uncle Herb. It's always a lovely afternoon of getting together with Dave's family and resembles a family reunion in lots of ways. The menu is always a choice of lobster or steak. Sides include clam chowder, steamed clams, sausage, corn on the cob, onions and potatoes, big cups of melted butter, and all the lemonade, tea, beer and wine you want. A few hundred officers and their families all bring tables, chairs, some with table cloths, wine glasses and even candlesticks, desserts, and whatever else is needed to enjoy a day of picnicking in the shade of tall pine trees on Portsmouth harbor.
