In the past few days, Drew has been more places than I would have ever had the guts to take him, thanks to the support of family. We went to a science museum, Target, Chuck E Cheese, Burger King, and Hampton Beach which was about an hour away each way. It was great! It's a lot of work to take a newborn places due to the sheer amount of stuff to take with you, but for the most part he was easy and slept during most of it. He slept the whole time on the beach, the sound of the waves just put him right out.
Breastfeeding in public is not fun, but I did it in Burger King with no incident. Also at the science museum, there was nowhere to sit or have any privacy, so I just stood in the bathroom and held him. It worked. Things you never think about unless you're living it is how so many places don't have seating arrangements for these kinds of things. Here he is being a real champ in Chuck E Cheese. I didn't feel like busting out a boob on a crowded Saturday night, so I fed him with a bottle. The poor kid has only had to take a bottle maybe 3 times in his whole life so far, so he doesn't really know how to do it. But he got it after a few minutes.
Since he was so sleepy for these trips, it left me free a bit to shoot some photos! I had a great time watching four of the craziest people I know swim in the very cold ocean: Nate, Meagan, Dave, and Doug. Abby sensibly stayed in the surf. You'll have to see Dave's blog for the details.
