Well we had a hell of a time finding a costume that Drew would wear this year. At first I got him a vampire costume, but he wouldn't wear it. Then I went to find him something else that closely resembled regular clothes, and about all I could come up with was this Native American outfit that just had pants and a top. But he didn't want to put that on either. So I had given up, but Dave had a great idea to just have him wear his little construction helmet and jeans and his yellow vest. I wish I had thought of it! AND it was free! So that's what we did and he was fine with it.
I went back and forth a million times trying to decide whether or not to take him to the mall for trick or treating, worrying about if he could handle it or not. So then I figured if we ever hope for him to be normal, we might as well give him a chance to do normal things, so we went. And he did great! Pretty quickly he understood what saying "trick or treat" is for, and I was shocked that he could stand in line patiently and wait (thank you, preschool!!!!!!!) and it went really well. He was so cute.
