A few weeks ago, Drew and I were sitting at the table, and he quietly asked me, "Mom, when am I going to take an exercise class?" He knows that Parker takes gymnastics classes, and swimming lessons during the week in the mornings. Drew has not taken any classes like those since he was a toddler, and now that he's in school all day, his availability is pretty slim for such things. Still, I was amazed and thrilled that he even asked! He has never expressed interest in anything like that. We reviewed some of the options for weekend classes at the YMCA and came up with rockcliming as an option. At that point I realized that if I signed Drew up for a Sunday morning class, that I'd have to include Parker as well.
As it turns out, I couldn't have known what a wonderful outlet for confidence this would be for the two of them.
The first class, Parker climbed all the way to the top of the climbing wall with no hesitation at all. Drew, being so much more cautious, climbed up a few feet and was quite happy with that. He had three climbs that day, and went a bit futher each time. Even though he was so proud of himself, and was having a great time, he was still very aware of how Parker was doing, and how many photos and videos I had taken of him vs. Parker.
